    Description:  Burroughs Community Center is seeking volunteers for it's VITA program. Vita is a volunteer income tax assitance program designed to help low to moderate income families file their tax returns free of charge. Volunteers from all walks of life spend either Sunday afternoons or Monday evenings during the tax season helping people file. The program offers 2 options for training. Volunteers can attend an IRS lead 8 hours of training or use the IRS online course. Once a volunteer passes the basic test from either source they will recieve on site training to use the software. If you can use a computer you can help! While tax season may be months away it is never to early to contact us to get involved or ask questions.

Description: The mission of the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport, Inc. (SVA) is to enrich and support the learning of Bridgeport’s public school students through the involvement of volunteers from Bridgeport and surrounding communities. Volunteers work in the schools during the school day reading books to classes and tutoring and mentoring individual students. Individuals may volunteer monthly, bi-weekly or weekly depending on their availability and type of opportunity selected. SVA provides books, materials and training to support the work of the volunteers.

A Brief Description:
Mercy Learning Center provides basic literacy and life skills training to low-income, undereducated women in the greater Bridgeport area. Our volunteers are vital to our program and assist us in many areas including tutoring students in ESL, Reading or Math, child care aides, computer lab aides, aides in Mercy's Closet (our used clothing boutique for students) and sewing and knitting instructors.

Volunteers are needed during the hours the Center is open; Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

BAYSO - Bridgeport American Youth Soccer Organization

A Brief Description
BAYSO is a youth soccer league with teams in the U5 through U14 age group. It is part of the national AYSO organization. There are two playing seasons: Fall and Spring with 8 games each. The games are played at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. We depend on volunteers to do the referee-ing and coaching. In particular we are looking for a volunteer to oversee the 4 year old division which only takes place in the spring (end of April to early June). The time commitment is one hour for 6 Saturdays and to attend one 2 hour meeting and training. We can use coaches for all divisions as well as referees. Coaches need to have 1-2 practices a week for 1 ½ hours and to coach a one hour game on Saturdays.
